Everyone needs time to unwind, sleep, nap…just hit snooze for a bit.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love foxes, so this was too good an opportunity not to shoehorn a picture in. But I’m not going to be discussing all things foxy…as much as I would love to.

It’s as I talked about a good few weeks ago, life is all about spinning plates and that is the situation I presently find myself in. Not content with having one start-up business, I have two. And not content with that steep learning curve, I am also studying to become a counsellor, coupled with trying to find a placement in order that I can progress on to the last stage of that process. And that’s not even mentioning the stuff I have going on in my private life at the moment…phew!

So, like any normal human being do I continue to try and slog up the mountain of ever-increasing overwhelm? No. I’ve decided that in order for me to be able to be the best version of me when we hit February – with all its shiny new-ness and new topic, I’m hitting snooze for a couple of days.

That’s right I’m going to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Because overwhelm isn’t useful to me, those around me or any of you out there in the ether who watch my videos and read my blogs. And let’s face it, nothing on my ever increasing to-do list is going anywhere. I can just pick that shit up again when I un-snooze things.   

And here’s the thing, that doesn’t mean that I then spend the days I have gifted myself stressing about what I’m putting down for a bit. I’ll write a to-do list to unburden the brain, I will pick the items apart, prioritise and then put that list down on my desk ready to work through when I’m back in the room.

I understand that not everyone has the luxury of being able to do this, and I know I’m lucky, but sometimes the simple act of deciding to just take your foot off the accelerator, unburden your brain and get some head space is enough.  

If you find yourself coming up a great big wall of overwhelm, ask yourself two simple questions – do I need a break right now? Can I just pick this shit back up again in a couple of days’ time? If  the answer is ‘yes’ to both, you know what to do.  

Hitting snooze could be the best thing you've done for you, your family, friends and your boss.
